Coronavirus family briefing number 3:              14.00  Friday 20th March 2020

Dear families,

We hope this briefing note finds you all as well as possible, despite anxieties around the current local, national and global situation.

At school we are continuing to follow the Department for Education (DfE) and National Association of Special Schools (NASS) advice. This includes what level of ongoing support we might be to offer our students and families. As you may have read the DfE is asking schools like ours to remain open until the end of term if we possibly can. This would naturally be dependent on having enough healthy staff, who are not self-isolating, to supervise students safely. I’m sure you will appreciate that this is a very fluid situation for us all.

We are happy to say that this week we have been able to run a relatively normal timetable and school experience for all students, and this will be our intention for the next two weeks up until the official end of term for students on Thursday April 2nd.

Included within the DfE guidance is also a reference to remaining open, providing care during the Easter holidays. This is something which we understand there will be further guidance on in the coming days and we will provide you with more information on this next week. Again, the logistics around this are significant and require very careful planning. We also need to say that any arrangements we put in place will be subject to us having enough healthy staff available to supervise students and activities safely. We will be providing more information on this through future briefing notes next week.

For residential students, please can you check that your travel arrangements for return to school on Monday are in place as there may be illness and or restrictions within the pool of taxi drivers.

To round off this briefing note we would like to wish everyone a relaxing and peaceful weekend, and to reassure you that we will be doing everything we possibly can to support our students and families in the coming days, weeks and months.

Best wishes from us all at school,
Kiran, Rob and Rob
