Aims + Purposes

Swalcliffe Park provides the opportunities – student success is our goal

Our main aim and purpose is to provide a child centred, non-confrontational, caring and supportive, integrated care and educational service for children whose educational needs cannot currently be met within a mainstream setting.

The school is committed to providing opportunities for young people to achieve in a safe living and learning environment. To facilitate this, staff receive high quality continuing professional development.   Students and staff work within a school code of conduct, which underpins the purpose, aims and values of the school.

At Swalcliffe Park we have a proven record of successfully engaging secondary aged students who present with a range of developmental, learning, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. Young people admitted to Swalcliffe Park School will generally have a Statement of Special Educational Needs which will contain a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder/Asperger Syndrome (ASDs). However, our experience is that the diagnosis will also refer to other developmental disorders or special educational needs including: ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Language Difficulties, Opposition Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Attachment Disorder (AD).

Many of our students have complex needs relating to executive functioning, high levels of anxiety and delayed development. The school has responded by focusing our training on ASDs and developing the therapeutic support within the school.
